In 1993, The American Bone
Research Group (ABRG) was founded to further the study of
bone and muscle health. Our physical therapy practice served
as a platform for clinical research. During our most recent
project involving osteoporosis we became aware of the relationship
between stress trajectories and trabecula architecture within
bone. It soon became obvious that unless you put bone (your
skeleton) in a mechanical environment (weight loading exercise),
the larger fraction of calcium, vitamin D and other bone building
nutrients never got absorbed. The hypothesis was proven that
bone strength is in fact threshold-driven and dependent on
strain rate, amplitude and duration of loading. This loading
is accomplished through specific exercises that address the
entire body. The results were a dramatic increase in bone
density over a relatively short period of time.
We published our findings
in a book written in clear, concise and understandable language
for the layperson. The book title is "Osteoporosis: A
New Concept In Treatment and Prevention." You may find
